Writer's Spotlight: Alexandra Sheppard • Alexandra Sheppard was born in North London to a Jamaican mother and English father. Oh My Gods, was her first YA novel, published by Scholastic in 2019. Her second YA novel, Friendship Never Ends, will be published by Knights Of in May 2023. Alexandra is also the co-author of Fly High Crew in collaboration with the Banjo Brothers, published by Scholastic and has also contributed to Happy Here, an anthology of 10 stories from Black British authors and illustrators published by Knights Of.

LIFE OF A BEEKEEPER • Nicole Rivera Hartery is a Black Puerto Rican beekeeper and educator, who lives in Philadelphia. Formerly a fashion student, her interest in bees came after visiting an observatory beehive at a museum. Nicole studied for her degree from Rutgers University. Today Nicole produces her own honey at Bess on Main St. We had a conversation with Nicole about educating the younger generation and the importance of representation within beekeeping.

Having worked in coal and gas fired power stations, oil and gas, district heating systems, and energy innovation, Yasmin transitioned away from fossil fuels into more sustainable energy systems over the course of her career. She has given over a hundred talks about engineering and energy, written for the BBC and Metro, featured in TV and radio programmes and completed a British Science Association Media Fellowship with the BBC's Science Unit.

Her second book, Welcome to Lagos, was published in 2016 and in 2018 she was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Chibundu's most recent novel for adults, Sankofa, was an October 2021 pick for the Reese Witherspoon Book Club.
