Real Classic

Jul 01 2024
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

WHO'S DONE WHAT

FROM THE FRONT

STILL THUMPING • BSA: built to last. Well, this particular BSA certainly was and certainly has. Rowena Hoseason explores a hundred years of heritage; owner Ben Lang shares his personal experiences, and Frank Westworth gets taken for a ride…

A BOYS’ OWN ADVENTURE

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on… Summat to say? Send your comments, hints, tips, tales of woe and derring-don't to: RCHQ@RealClassic.net

THE Spirit of COLOMB RES • You know how it happens. You buy an old bike on an impulse. It needs more work than you hoped. You book your ticket to an autumn event, because it'll be ready by then, right? Adam Fuller's Laverda was good to go… a whole three days before the rally!

RETURNING to the ROOST • You know how it goes: you buy the bike, you ride the bike, you sell the bike. Then you wonder, why didn't I keep that bike? Paul Miles celebrates the second coming of the Condor…

The FAMOUS James • Possibly not the most famous James of them all, but certainly a fine machine. Alan Cathcart uncovers the several delights of James’ supersports twin…

THE MILLER MUSEUM

Everyday HERO • Time to go a-plunging again. Frank Westworth pretends to ride to work on a rather fine BSA, a B31, plunger of course…

30 Miles (in) an hour • John Moulton takes a ride between dry stone walls and reservoirs…

READER ADS

Connie PART THE FIRST LONG LEGS dummy • Paul Henshaw gets to grips with an Enfield twin which ‘just needs finishing.’ Just needs a complete rebuild, more like…

Too old to ROCK ‘n’ ROLL • Matters of the motor: Alan Smith struggles with some upgraded engine internals during his first rebuild of a British classic bike…

STARFIRE SCRAMBLER

Ollie's ODDJOBS • When is a Velo not a Velo? When it has a Honda engine, maybe. Meet Paula's Velocette…

TALES FROM THE SHED • When is an earth not an earth? Why should a simple bulb replacement cause impenetrable earthing issues? Frank has rejoined the flat earth society, plainly…

Members’ Enclosure • The newsletter for RealClassic subscribers only
