INTERNATIONAL RESCUE • Once again the International team will be relying on the Aussie stars to supply the bulk of the team spirit in their war against the Yanks in the Presidents Cup. This isn’t specifically Australia’s fight to take up, but it’s one we’re in, whether it still captivates the fans or not.

Mojor MOMENTS • When Lilia Vu three-putted the final hole at the AIG Women’s Open, it signed the scorecard for the 2024 major season. We saw first-time winners, drought-breakers, an American clean sweep on the men’s side of the ledger and a plethora of worldclass golf shots – and some poor ones. Here are the moments and shots we think defined the major championships of 2024.

Koala KARL • It seems only a matter of time before Australian golfer Karl Vilips makes the PGA Tour a regular gig. However, as the 23-year-old boldly states, when he does settle into week in, week out big-time golf, he won’t be there to make up the numbers.

GREAT GOLF COURSES: AUSTRALIA • Last issue we highlighted three excerpts from former long-time Editor of this magazine Brendan James’ amazing new book Great Golf Courses: Australia, which celebrates incredible layouts from across the country. In that September edition, we delivered you some of Brendan’s observations on a string of Western Australian courses. This time around it’s New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania’s time to shine.

Barossa to Berri • South Australia’s neighbouring Barossa Valley and Riverland regions have a whole lot more to offer tourists than wine-tasting at vino giants like Penfolds and Jacob’s Creek. These hotspots are also very appealing to tourists who may have accidentally packed their sticks, just in case a fine layout is spotted while wine hunting.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

NEVADA DESERT GOLF … AND FOOTY • On March 1 of 2025, the NRL will be opening its season with, count ‘em, four games of footy in the party capital of the world, Las Vegas. Our Senior Writer, Matt Cleary, who moonlights as a golf tour operator, will be hosting a group of like-minded folks to Vegas to play some of the most spectacular Nevada desert golf and attend the footy. And you may join him.
