BADLY DUBBED

Performance VW

CIVIC UNREST • Matt Chapdelaine’s come a long way from being a starry-eyed teen in a bone-stock Honda. With his Mk6 GTI’s shaved bay, VR6 swap and brakes that could stop a planet, he just can’t stop shaking up the status quo…

WHAT’S NEW

PERFORMANCE PROFILE • Our new Performance Profile regular feature is intended to highlight some of the best independent VW specialists from around the globe that you may never have heard of. This month is the turn of Canadian tuner, PG Performance.

BRIAN SCOTTO • Whether he likes to admit it or not, Brian Scotto is a pretty big deal in aftermarket automotive circles. He may have founded the Hoonigans brand with Ken Block, bought a modified Ferrari 360, and own an RWB 911, but something brought him back round to his water-cooled VW roots. Here, he tries to explain what and also why his current daily driver is an unreliable, Rallye Green Mk1 Swallowtail!

STUART GALLAGHER • Stuart may hold the prestigious role of evo magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, but I bet you didn’t know he started his scribing days on Max Power?! He was also a staffer on this very publication back in the day, so we decided to put him on the spot and ask his take on modified cars - a subject often regarded as taboo in automotive purist circles!

WE ARE FAMILY • Brock Bickford was taught to spanner on his own cars by his grandfather, father and older brother. He’s kept this tradition alive by showing his daughter, Ellie the VW light. If her Mk2 is anything to go by, the future of our scene is in safe hands…

LITTLE & LARGE • We were blown away after debuting Haroon Sadiq’s Period Perfect+ Typ19 Mk2 Golf back in PVW 11/21. However, it was actually his 1:18-scale diecast replica model that stole the show on the day.

DO WORK • He may have built some world-class show cars in the past and struggle to leave any of his vehicles standard, but surely Simon Sweetland wouldn’t feel the need to mess with his daily workhorse? Yeah, about that…

THE WORKS • Faced with the fallout of a track day engine failure, Gary Nudd spent four years re-engineering his Corrado as a 600hp-plus road-legal racer with a healthy dose of Berg Cup inspiration.

KEEN ON CALLAWAY • When most car people hear the name ‘Callaway’ they usually link it with big-power, force-induced Corvettes. Volkswagen purists, however, well they generally have slightly different thoughts…

Go TIG or Go Home • A Tiguan? In PVW?! We're almost as surprised as you are, but this Mk2 R-Line is a spectacular build that shows what’s possible with creativity and vision, and the end result is one of the coolest family haulers you're ever going to come across

URBAND LEGENDS • The Netherlands has held some mega modified VW shows over the years, but sadly most cease to exist. Thankfully, the VAG Legends event looks set to put Holland well-and-truly back on the map, though!

SOUND & VISION • Milltek’s Steve Pound has been improving the soundtrack of VW Group’s finest for decades, and his perfectly judged car collection proves his devotion to the cause runs far deeper...
