Steam Days is a monthly magazine dedicated to all steam railway enthusiasts. Each issue covers the six regions of British Railways: Western, Southern, London, Midland, Eastern, and Scottish, with the occasional article on Irish railways and the industrial scene. These well illustrated articles in the magazine cover the history of the railways of Britain from the early days of the 1800s through to the end of steam on British Railways in August 1968.

In search of Beattie well tanks • Inspired to seek out the trio of veteran 0298 class tank engines based atWadebridge, Ian Turnbull discovered many moreWest Country delights during a weekend in August 1960.

Branch line and byway outstations of Thornton Junction engine shed • Roger Griffiths and John Hooper continue their appraisal of the greater picture for Thornton Junction engine shed, in this case sheds and stabling points for out-based engines on less busy lines, including some short-lived premises lost while Fife’s railway system was still growing.

Pullman predicament at Potters Bar …when the starter became the main course • With new Pullman stock changes coming and diesel provision a periodic woe for steam enthusiasts, a summer 1960 evening saw John Carter venture out to the East Coast main line to photograph the old order on both theTees-Tyne Pullman and the Yorkshire Pullman. In the event, unexpected events unfolded at Potters Bar. All photographs by the author.
