Quiet exit • Meriden man Harry Woolridge described the 1966 5TA as: “Not the ultimate but certainly the last Speed Twin”. Despite this example’s charm, it’s hard to disagree.
At the Deubel • Winner of the 1961 and 1962 GP sidecar titles, Max Deubel, crewed by Emil Hörner on his all-powerful BMW RS54-engined outfit, was favourite for the 1963 title. But he would be given no easy time by Florian Camathias, Georg Auerbacher and Fritz Scheidegger, also running BMW engines, albeit with a little less power.
