Loosen the soil to a depth of at least 15cm and mix some slow release bulb fertiliser into the soil when planting, ensuring the pointed part of each corm is facing upwards. If planting in a pot, select a taller container and use a bulb potting mix for best results.

The constant gardener • Autumn is harvesting and nature’s planting time in the garden. Here’s what to gather, sow and grow this month

By arrangement • Insta-famous English floral designer Anna Potter tells how to create a splendid, suspended botanical cloud that everyone will look up to

Tomato tart

Turn over a new leaf • Opt for vegan goodness and make the most of gorgeous seasonal produce
