THE VIBE

The Dormant Flame Ignites! • From an early age, this artist’s parents shared a love of all things beautiful with their daughter, including the wonder of nature.

Maleny Meadows • This scene was painted in pastel en plein air recently in Maleny, a hilltop town on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. It was painted mid-afternoon with the lengthening of shadows, providing a lovely contrast of light and shade.

Artist’s Hints & Tips

A Creative Hub in the Hills • The Dandenong Ranges on the outskirts of Melbourne have long held a strong attraction for artists of all persuasions. From the impressionist painters Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts, to Fred Williams and Lin Onus, many artists have not only set up their easels amongst the dense ferns and tall mountain ash trees, but call the ‘hills’ their home. Nestled among the foothills of the Dandenongs, a 45-minute drive from the city centre, Burrinja Cultural Centre serves this creative community today with a wide range of exhibitions, theatre, music, dance, creative arts and crafts.

Judith’s Journey • This award-winning artist and teacher from Umina Beach shares her experiences with us.

What’s Around The Bend? • I was on a journey from Gosford to Wisemans Ferry on the Central Coast of New South Wales and just had to stop to take the photo of this spot. I always love painting tracks going off into the light.

Artist’’S Tips & Hints

Digitalising Your Artwork

Realism and Texture • Lynette Grey has captured the driving spirit of this artist in this informative profile.

Stay Close to Mum • Elephants are a popular subject, and their dynamic personalities have been captured in a wonderful variety of art forms. Watercolour is a fantastic medium to illustrate the texture of their endearingly wrinkled skin. Elephants are often thought of as grey – and perhaps they would be if they were clean – but inevitably they are always covered in the dust and mud of the day’s adventures.
