Lewis at the Laidlaw • An unaltered 1868 T.C. Lewis organ has found a new home in a state-of-the-art music centre in St Andrews.

A sure foundation • Having quickly built an international reputation since launching in 2005, the British vocal ensemble VOCES8 could have sat back on their laurels. Instead, they have channelled their energies into a combination of performing and outreach programmes that have touched the lives of millions.

Freestyle • When I got fired; Tom Bell freaks out; meeting Widor

COMPETITIONS 2022 • Guide to Organ and Choral Competitions

‘Building bigger boats’ • Some people feel uncomfortable at the idea, and some think it has nothing to do with them. Yet the Society of Women Organists, founded three years, has already proved it knows how to steer an organisation that nurtures inclusivity, to the benefit of the entire organ-playing community.

In the spotlight • After 18 frustrating months of isolation and Zoom rehearsals, the Washington Chorus and its new musical director, Eugene Rogers, have embarked on an initiative to raise awareness of injustices in the USA and point the way towards a better future for all.

Work in progress • Though the Canadian firm of Juget-Sinclair is modest in size and not even 30 years old, its organs have nevertheless reached a global market thanks to their consistently high quality, writes Paul Hale.

TRAVELLER’S JOY • Clare Stevens explores Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, home to two historic organs and Hamilton Harty’s birthplace
