Homespun Knitting

Issue 3
Magazine

Knitting has always been one of the most popular crafts in Homespun and our new Knitting series has been created to help you either start or continue knitting with special projects by the designers you know and love from Homespun, as well as some new on-trend creatives. The 14 projects in this special title are bright, bold and diversely designed to delight with something for all knitters.

Hello from GAILLE

Homespun Knitting

A FAMILY FARMING BUSINESS IN Rural Queensland • Growers and processors of mohair since 1995

Oriental Flower MITTENS • These 4 ply mittens have been designed to encourage a beginner knitter to try knitting in the round. They feature a twisted rib cuff, a simple cable that runs up the outside on every 8th round and faces the opposite mitten, a peasant style thumb, a flat decrease shaping at the top and a Kitchener stitch finish.

ALL WORK, GNOME PLAY • Gnorwen loves working at the Gnice Cream Shoppe in the Gnorthern Ranges National Park. The park is famous for its whitewater rivers, the shop is famous for its sundaes, and Gnorwen is famous for being cold all the time working around the freezers. Tourists love to get their picture taken with her after rafting expeditions.

Michelle’s CHICKEN • This chicken is a quick and fun knit that’s great for practising stranded colourwork, especially while working in the round. The base is knitted flat; the rest of the body is worked in the round using stitches picked up from around the edge of the base. This project requires some sewing to put the pieces together and mattress stitch is recommended. Gauge is not important as the chicken looks great in any size!

It’s time to Unwind and Connect

Leaf SHRUG • Leaf Shrug is a lightweight shrug/cardigan that is ideal for a summer evening when the sun goes down and the breeze starts. The very simple construction is based on a rectangle with provisional cast on and minimal sewing, with the neckband/front/bottom edging knitted in the round using a circular needle. The sleeve stitches are picked up from the sides of the rectangle and are worked in the round as well. The garment is reversible and can also be worn upside down, so no more worries about what goes where!

Miami BABY BLANKET • Inspired by the Art Deco colours and beach vibe, the Miami Baby Blanket is perfect for any new baby. The pattern is available as both knit and crochet, and the simple stitch pattern used in each makes for an almost meditative project. This blanket has been designed as a baby blanket but can be easily adapted to create a blanket of any size.

GNOME DE PLUME • Gnatalie is gnome around the world as a pre-eminent author of gardening advice, and her “Toadstools for Everyday” and “Fungus, Flowers and Fun” are Gnew York Times bestsellers.

INTERVIEW WITH Angie Cooper

Moss Rib SWEATER • Suitable for an intermediate knitter, this timeless snuggly sweater features moss stitch texture and ribbed borders in varied lengths.

Gum Blossom TRIM COAT

GNOT JUST ANOTHER GNOME • Gnathan is locally known for leading themed hikes. “Mossy Walkies”, “A 20k Keeps the Doctor Away” and “Scree Slopes for Bees” are some of his highest-rated rambles. Like many gnomes, he loves the outdoors so much because a toadstool house isn’t somewhere to spend 24 hours a day, even though they’re bigger on the inside.

THE ADVENTURE GNOME • Gnutmeg can be counted on to bring a bowl of egg gnog and belly laughs to every party. His favourite gift is tickets to see The Gnutcracker Prince. He recently tried out for a part in an upcoming Gnetflix show called The Gnome of the Gnorth – let’s cross our fingers that he gets it!

Twisted Rib

makerie • Notions, tools and accessories. Classes and workshops in our new large, bright and airy classroom....
