THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW • Ever wondered what happened to some of the more famous faces to grace the pages of DA over the past 250 issues? Wonder no more.
BUILD-A-BIKE GASGAS MC450 • 10 products we recommend for the GasGas MC450F
SOMUCH DIRT & SOMUCH ACTION • Reaching 250 issues is a memorable landmark any publication would be rightly proud of. This issue we recognise DA’s impressive 250-issue and 25-year history, and who better to reminisce about what life’s like at DIRT ACTION than the magazine’s longest-serving editor, Damien Ashenhurst.
A TALE OF TWO 250s • In 1968, Yamaha set the dirtbike world on its ear with the unveiling of the DT1, a 250cc two-stroke trailbike that was like nothing that had ever gone before it. Fifty-five years later, Yamaha’s latest WR250F can trace its roots all the way back to the bike that was created to ride to work Monday to Friday, then take aim on the California desert on the weekend.
JETT FIGHTER PILOT • Jett Lawrence is the fastest 250cc pilot in American supercross and motocross racing right now, so if that doesn’t qualify you far an interview in DA issue #250, nothing will! He’s also being touted as the next big thing in the sport, and with a clutch of AMA championships to his name already, it’s clear Jett’s on his way to the top — and looks set to stay there.
TASMANIAN DEVIL • How does a kid fresh out of Juniors step up and sweep all before him to dominate the 2022 Yamaha AORC and A4DE aboard a 250cc thumper? That's what we needed to know, so we went delving into the story behind Kyron Bacon.
AJ’S VIEW
MC’s HAMMER • If you were going to pick a 250cc race bike of the modern era to replicate, you would just have to make it Jeremy McGrath’s legendary 1996 model Honda CR250R factory bike. But when you’re starting with an almost basketcase machine, just how involved a process is it? Or more to the point, how fat is your wallet?
250cc OF RANDOM GOODNESS • Since the days when Moses rode for Zundapp, the 250cc class reigned supreme as the premier category of dirtbike racing around the world … until a certain 400cc four-stroke came along and changed all that. Nevertheless, on the occasion of DA’s 250th issue, it’s only appropriate that we dig through the archives to remember some special 250cc machines that found their place in history, be it good or bad!
FRENCH REVO LUTION • Two-strokes or four? It’s the question on many an Aussie off-road rider’s lips right now. And as far as French brand Sherco is concerned, they’ve got the answers no matter which side of the fence you ride on!
RED ALERT • If there's one place in the world where the ranks of big-bore four-stroke trail/enduro machines continue to prosper, it's Austria....
