OUR 25TH Anniversary IT'S PURE GOLD! • When Homespun was launched 25 years ago, it was a time of high excitement and fabulous opportunities for crafters around Australia. Before Homespun, there had been very few locally produced craft magazines; instead, many readers relied on magazines shipped from the USA and the UK for their craft inspiration. How exciting it was when that changed. Homespun‘s sister magazine, Quilters Companion, arrived on the scene a year later and all of a sudden, quiltmakers, embroiderers and textile crafters of all kinds were able to make projects that reflected Australian style, colour and season designed by people we'd heard of or maybe even met.

Better Together

25 Textile Stars • Craft takes many forms in many mediums. At Homespun we focus on ‘soft’ crafts – crafts made with textiles – sewing, knitting, crochet, patchwork and quilting, soft toy making and more. There are creators at both the professional and hobbyist level and everywhere in between. In this 25 year celebratory issue, we take a look at 25 textile designers who have created a name for themselves, achieved recognition and found a place on the crafts stage of Australia. We celebrate them as we celebrate Homespun in its 25th year!

THE TEAGAN BASKETWEAVE TOTE • With its classic basketweave texture, this medium-sized crochet tote is the perfect combination of traditional and modern. This bag is just the right size for a trip to the beach, your next girls’ night out or simply as an everyday purse. This tote works up quickly with a double strand of Aran-weight yarn, making it a trendy, must-have summer accessory.

LIBERTY CROSSROADS QUILT • This large impactful quilt is made from 25 simple 16-patch blocks. When laying out the blocks, a secondary ‘cross’ pattern appears.

SUSHI BAG OR PETITS POISSONS? • This bag shape, based on the Japanese rice bag, combined with Véronique's French heritage, leaves the question — is it French or Japanese?

Romance QUILT • This delightful quilt is made by bagging out the layers, which means you don't need to attach bias binding around those sweet scallops.

Lost Stars SHAWL • Indulge yourself in the bright colours of summer with this striking summer-weight granny square shawl.

A KIND OF HUSH • This beautiful design would be equally at home in the Palace of Versailles or in the bedroom of your own private castle. Quiet pastels and patterns are tempered with shots of strong colour to make this royalty among quilts.

CENTIPEDE • Inspired by fuzzy caterpillars inching along thin branches, half Dresdens are alternated up and down to imitate the undulating pattern of a crawling caterpillar.

Bathing BOXES • Inspired by the brightly coloured bathing boxes at Brighton Beach in Melbourne,...
