MARITIMO M75

LAKE TEKAPO POWERBOAT MARATHON

ELAN PARTNERS WITH PORSCHE, PINNIFARINA • SLOVENIAN BOAT BUILDER ELAN HAS COLLABORATED WITH LEADING DESIGN STUDIOS TO BRING MORE FLAIR TO NEW MODELS.

SEIZE THE DAY • Bigger is not necessarily always better, a fact the Maritimo team was aware of when carefully contemplating its largest sedan model yet, the S75, reports Kevin Green.

D’URVILLE DAYS • “We need a few days away!” I said to Tom. After 10 successive days of rain and gloom, a high moved in, the sun came out and cool southerlies brought snow to the ranges around Tasman Bay. We headed out of The Cut from Nelson’s Haven, aboard our Craddock 36 Zest on Thursday May 11, 2023.

BOAT BLING

ALONG FOR THE RIDE • There’s more to a Haines Hunter boat than meets the eye. Boating NZ took a comprehensive tour of the Haines Hunter plant to see how the boats are made.

Something for everyone • The Sydney International Boat Show (3-6 August) offered a bit of everything, no matter how large or small your budget, reports Kevin Green.

FISHING BOATS NZ GOES BIG

AN OCEAN ANGLER • It might seem strange that lure-fishing enthusiast Paul Senior, co-owner of fishing tackle company Ocean Angler, is actually proud his Innovision 555 – a highly-specialised sport fishing boat – doesn’t much look like one.

Where beauty means danger • With 77 atolls sprawled over 130,000 nautical miles in the South Pacific east of Tahiti, the Tuamotu Archipelago is a stunning ocean treasure. It’s also dangerous.

KAYAK ONBOARD! • An inflatable kayak has opened up a whole new world of exploration and fun for this year-round cruising couple.

Getting into hot water • A few months ago, I wrote about the design and installation of a new galley layout for my boat Divecat. During that process I installed a new hot water system for the shower and sink. Regular readers will recall that the installation was not quite finished, and I still needed to get a certified gas-fitter to complete the gas installation.

POWER to IMPRESS • Walking up to the Profab 1200 assymetric planing hull power catamaran on the marina berth, my inner Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t help but beam a naughty boy’s grin upon seeing the pair of beautiful Mercury V12 600hp outboards sitting quietly on the stern. I knew they were just waiting to be woken up and set loose.

ALL GO AT PROFAB

In the bag • In last month’s article you found me returning to Auckland one day after abandoning a trip out to Sauvage for an afternoon picnic I had planned for my parents. The water proved a little too lively on that day but did allow me views of Sauvage from land. A short glimpse was all I needed to see that Sauvage’s sail cover had come loose from its ropes to flap around in the wind. I returned the following day and was able to secure the sail cover.

Welcome Aboard • Boating & Outdoors Group held its annual two-day conference in Rotorua on July 28-29. Boating NZ was invited to attend.
