We also bring you regular interviews with key artisans, all the top news and gossip and new product launches. Not forgetting great techniques, ‘how to’s’, top trends and fantastic competitions for you to expand your miniature collection!

Welcome to the October edition!

Making memories • Thirty years in the making! As we gear up to mark our milestone birthday in December here at DHMS, Kath Holden and Delph Miniatures also celebrate three decades of small scale.

Haunting inspirations • Miniature artists find inspiration in so many places and in so many ways. It may be a film, a favourite book, a painting or a trip to some exotic locale. Suddenly a spark is lit. Queen of the Macabre, artist Ericka VanHorn, admits she doesn’t care for gore, but her interests are definitely moody, curious and dark…

Wicked witch cupcakes • Get ready for Halloween with these super fun and cute miniature cupcakes with a witch diving headfirst into the buttercream! Combined with other spooky food and decorations, your miniature Halloween party this year will be the best yet!

Scream cheese and voodoo spirits • From blood coffee to vampire vodka, Moi Ali gets into the Halloween spirit…

Big Mac, micro Mac • Moi Ali strolls down IT Memory Lane.

Steampunk style witch • Steampunk costume is a mix of fashions from different historical eras. Often loosely based on late Victorian styles, it can also combine the looks of fantasy, burlesque, goth, frills, street or punk. To tie the outfit together, try to link any plain fabrics with colours in your print, but don’t be afraid to experiment with your choice of materials for your doll. With steampunk, more or less anything goes!

A WORLD OF MINIATURES IS WAITING FOR YOU…

At Home with THE BROADWOODS • Counting the pennies

Time for magic • Discover the magic of time travel with visual storyteller Tamar Cohen, as she takes us on a tour of the Alchemist Castle and casts a spell in the Witches Kitchen.

Unleash your passion for miniatures…

Ruth’s MINI TIPS • Ruth Flewelling Lesbirel continues her top tips and advice for what has worked (or not worked!) for her throughout her years of experience. This month, she looks at where you can find miniature inspiration if a specialist store isn’t something you can get to easily.

Instagram identities: Marc La Fontijn aka The House of Eliott Part 2 • Following on from last issue, Moi Ali takes another look at some very theatrical scenes from history and fiction…

The Quartermaster: A TINY BIT OF CORNWALL • When Alison Sutton couldn’t get to her favourite holiday destination of Cornwall one year because of Covid, she decided that Cornwall would come to her in Cambridgeshire! So, Alison of St Neots, set about recreating a picturesque Cornish harbour scene in 1/148th scale.

Mini writing desk • This sweet little piece, with its rich acanthus leaf scrolls and shell motifs, would tuck into a small space in almost any dolls house or roombox. Comfortable in a period setting (think Jane Austen) or as a cherished family heirloom in a more contemporary scene, it could be a lady’s writing desk, a vanity with a mirror above, a hall table, or even used as a study desk today.

Pint-sized pints! • When reader Mike Arnold can’t make Oktoberfest, he brings Oktoberfest to him… in miniature!

The Whole Kit & Caboodle: LADIES ACCESSORIES • Moi Ali’s kit review showcases the epitome of femininity.
