Australian Adventure Bike

Issue 23
Magazine

Our goal in ULTIMATE ADVENTURE BIKE AUSTRALIA is to appreciate everyone that’s having a crack — big or small — and enjoying whatever it is that’s an adventure to you. Hopefully, along the way we can steer you in the right direction (pun kinda intended) and bring to the fore just how much fun and how liberating adventure riding is. The adventure bike scene is one of the most vibrant across the globe and nowhere is it more relevant than in this vast sunburnt country. We were built by adventurers and the need to explore is in our blood. There’s never been a better time to do it on a motorcycle with an amazing array of machines and gear available for all. And now they’re finding freedom once again on bikes that take them back in bush and well beyond, in a less aggressive environment. Now is the time to reach those riders. Readers will be treated to the highest quality photography and journalism with bike tests and bucketlist rides leading the features. Each issue will also have dedicated ride tutorials and handy on track how to’s and will be chockas full of gear and accessories that we know this audience loves.

HOGES’ HIGH COUNTRY TOURS

BANANA RAMA • Our first taste of Suzuki’s new V-Strom 800 DE at the bike’s rain-soaked launch in New Zealand was enough to indicate the new ‘P-Strom’ had the goods to make an awesome adventure tourer for Aussie conditions. We’ve now spent three days and 1,500 kays romping around central NSW and the Hunter Valley, and we’re rapt to confirm the 800 DE is as good as anticipated.

RAIDERS OF THE TÉNÉRÉ SPIRIT • It’s here, finally. And to true Ténéré tragics, the World Raid is the bike the Ténéré 700 should have been from day one.

TRANSALP OUTBACK • As the country’s premier Honda-mounted ADV tour operator, legendary 500cc MotoGP road racer Daryl Beattie wasted no time in taking three new XL750 Transalps further from home than they’ve ever been in Australia.

SAFARI ENDURO • When the annual BMW Safari GS Enduro decides to go big, they sure don’t do it by halves. This year’s romp from Cairns to Darwin made for a Safari that was certainly of epic proportions.

RIDE THE DIVIDE • What started out as a pipe dream to run an adventure bike tour along the entire length of the Great Dividing Range, ultimately became reality when Maschine Tours completed a three-part journey that culminated with an unforgettable trip to the tip of Cape York.

AURORA XPLORERS • If the factories won’t make us rally replica bikes, then take the bit between your teeth and work with a brand like Aurora Rally to build the bike you’ve always dreamed of.

OVER THE TOPS • Just north of Newcastle is a region that offers some real ADV riding treats. It’s the Barrington Tops, the high-altitude gateway to the upper reaches of the NSW Hunter Valley, and it’s a place well worth a visit.

ROAD RUNNER COUNTRY • One of the best things about riding adventure bikes is the places they take you and the memories you make along the way. Fronting up for the 2010 American KTM Adventure Rallye in the red rock canyons of Moab, Utah, is certainly a ride we will never forget.

TOTAL CONTROL • If you’re going to be a safe and confident adventure rider across all types of riding conditions, it all starts with getting your body position and weight distribution dialled in.
