Australian Adventure Bike

Issue 24
Magazine

Our goal in ULTIMATE ADVENTURE BIKE AUSTRALIA is to appreciate everyone that’s having a crack — big or small — and enjoying whatever it is that’s an adventure to you. Hopefully, along the way we can steer you in the right direction (pun kinda intended) and bring to the fore just how much fun and how liberating adventure riding is. The adventure bike scene is one of the most vibrant across the globe and nowhere is it more relevant than in this vast sunburnt country. We were built by adventurers and the need to explore is in our blood. There’s never been a better time to do it on a motorcycle with an amazing array of machines and gear available for all. And now they’re finding freedom once again on bikes that take them back in bush and well beyond, in a less aggressive environment. Now is the time to reach those riders. Readers will be treated to the highest quality photography and journalism with bike tests and bucketlist rides leading the features. Each issue will also have dedicated ride tutorials and handy on track how to’s and will be chockas full of gear and accessories that we know this audience loves.

ZERO RIDES AGAIN IN AUSTRALIA

RIDING WITH THE WARHORSE • It’s amazing to think that a 1992 Honda XRV750 Africa Twin has become a darling of the YouTube world via Adam Riemann’s Motology Films channel. The story of this bike and rider’s relationship is a great one, and we were lucky to ride with this ‘odd couple’ on the way to The Dirty Weekend event at Green Valley Farm — and revisit a little of our personal history with the accomplished rider/racer/editor/filmmaker.

A DIRTY WEEKEND • For riders who need an excuse to get out there to ride and enjoy their ADV machine, look no further than The Dirty Weekend. It’s precisely the kind of gathering that puts good, clean fun back into adventure bike riding.

ARCTIC BLAST • A big night on the whiskey in Baja gave rise to a bucket-list ride for five ADV amigos to tour all the way across Canada and Alaska to ultimately reach the waters of the Arctic Ocean.

DARYL’S WORLD • It’s a long, long way from the Grand Prix road race circuits of Europe to the most remote corners of outback Australia. So if you’re looking for former 500 GP champ Daryl Beattie, best you go searching Cape York, the Simpson Desert or the Canning Stock Route.

G’DAY NEW ZEALAND • Just a three-or-so-hour flight away from the east cost of Australia lies the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand. It’s a country that packs a hell of a punch when it comes to adventure bike riding and the South Island should be on every Aussie ADVer’s bucket list of rides. Kia ora!

DOUBLE-X • So many of us dream of one day doing a big adventure ride, but precious few actually get out and make it happen. Here’s a story about two blokes who didn’t just ride across Australia once, they turned around and rode right back across again — via as much dirt as possible.

DAWN RAIDER • Is this going to be a case of third time lucky? We’ve already had two Yamaha Ténéré 700s in our life, and now it’s time for a third with the arrival of a World Raid long-term project bike for the next few issues. So let’s kick things off with fitting a stack of bolt-ons before we head for the bush.

MAD HATTAHS • Deep red sand might not be the first choice of riding terrain for most ADV riders. But if you enjoy the challenge of diving deep into the camel grass, head for the Murray-Sunset...
