Our goal in ULTIMATE ADVENTURE BIKE AUSTRALIA is to appreciate everyone that’s having a crack — big or small — and enjoying whatever it is that’s an adventure to you. Hopefully, along the way we can steer you in the right direction (pun kinda intended) and bring to the fore just how much fun and how liberating adventure riding is. The adventure bike scene is one of the most vibrant across the globe and nowhere is it more relevant than in this vast sunburnt country. We were built by adventurers and the need to explore is in our blood. There’s never been a better time to do it on a motorcycle with an amazing array of machines and gear available for all. And now they’re finding freedom once again on bikes that take them back in bush and well beyond, in a less aggressive environment. Now is the time to reach those riders. Readers will be treated to the highest quality photography and journalism with bike tests and bucketlist rides leading the features. Each issue will also have dedicated ride tutorials and handy on track how to’s and will be chockas full of gear and accessories that we know this audience loves.

MOUNTAIN GOAT • The small-bore ADV wars are heating up, and Royal Enfield is aiming to grab a big slice of the action with its totally updated but bargain-priced new Himalayan 450. We went all the way to the Himalayas — where else! — to ride the new thumper.
OVERLAND OVERLOAD • So you’re dreaming of finally doing that big ‘overland’ ride and going global? AAB Editor at Large Dave Darcy has done more than a few international ADV tours of duty, so we asked him for some wise words of advice to help riders who are getting close to pulling the trigger on the ride of a lifetime.
CONFESSIONS OF A HUSKY TREK VIRGIN • When you’ve been a longtime enduro and superbike racer, what are you going to do when you turn 60? Get an adventure bike like a Husqvarna 701 LR and get amongst the action of the Husky Trek, of course!
CUNNING STUNTS • Just over a year ago, and shrouded in a veil of secrecy, Miles Davis received the call to fly to Chile to ride BMW’s new R 1300 GS for the German brand’s global media campaign for the new bike. This is his story …
TÉNÉRÉ TIME • When you’re a new Ténéré 700 owner, what better event to be a part of to put yourself and your new bike through its paces than a two-day Ténéré 700 Rally ride through central NSW?
THE ROYAL TREATMENT • If you’re going to build a new bike called the Himalayan, what better place to launch it to the world’s media than the Himalayas? This launch with Royal Enfield was one to remember.
RAM RAIDED • Farkle me! Can we really keep bolting more bits onto the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid project bike? You betcha. We’ve only just begun!
RUMBLE TO NUNDLE • Why are these riders from the DSMRA Sydney branch all looking so happy? Because they’re in the midst of the annual Nundle Rumble ADV ride and it’s one of the best runs through the upper Hunter Valley of NSW.
AMERICAN ENVOY • When you need to return a favour and take an American mate on an adventure ride in Australia, what do you do? Put him on a KLX450R, of course, and make him ride it a couple of thousands kays...
