CARRY ON FINALE • This year’s Stotfold Mill’s Steam Fair and Country show took place on 11-12 May in glorious weather for a change, where possibly making its last appearance for some while, Fowler Carry On starred with its silver chimney and smokebox. Simon Colbeck was there and brings us the full flavour of the engine.

GLAD TO BE BACK • In glorious weather the 61st HCVS London-Brighton Commercial Run was back on the road on Sunday 12 May, based at the historic Brooklands Museum, Weybridge in Surrey - outside the ‘dreaded’ London Mayor’s Ultra Low Emission Zone. The whole job was certainly stressful for organiser Fraser Clayton and his team as the M25 Junction 9 was closed over the weekend for a new bridge to be installed over the M25, leading to a diverted route to the starting site.

JOB DONE! • In the June issue we introduced 1922 McLaren type TC50 8hp No. 1713 that by the time you read this will have completed its historic heavy haulage road run to the High Weald Steam Working Rally at Nutley in East Sussex on Wednesday 12 June, says David Vaughan.

THORNYCROFT J-TYPE IN THE LIMELIGHT!

ABBEY HILL GETS IT STARTED IN SOMERSET • In soft ground conditions that got better as the weekend continued the annual 2024 Abbey Hill Steam Rally took place at the Yeovil Showground, Somerset over the early May bank holiday weekend of 3-6 May, says Joseph Lewis.

ABBEY’S MIGHTY MINIATURES • Around 40 miniature steam entries were exhibited at the 2024 Abbey Hill Rally at Yeovil Showground, Somerset from May 3-6, reports Joseph Lewis.

FERMOY DEBUTS IN NORTH WALES • The annual Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza took place at the regal resort over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, with only seven full-sized engines in attendance. David Reed went along to watch the action.

FABULOUS FAWLEY STRIKES GOLD! • Fawley Hill Vintage Transport Festival took place over 17-19 May and enthralled the large crowds over the three days, says Simon Colbeck.

PURE GOLD • We preview one man’s lifetime collection of nothing but top-class Fowler/Marshall stock. With so much history attached to each and every tractor, crawler, stationary engine and implement, this collection is undoubtedly ‘pure gold’.

LOCAL INDUSTRIES REMEMBERED IN NOTTINGHAM PART 2 • David Reed...
