If you love the spectacle of immaculately-restored old machinery, or are fascinated by Britain’s rich industrial and transport heritage, Old Glory is the magazine for you! In vivid detail it brings back all the sights and sounds of yesteryear. Glorious showman’s engines belt out the amperes to drive historic fairground rides; pairs of mighty steam ploughing engines turn the soil; steam rollers make up roads once more; tram wheel flanges squeal through town and city streets; colourful working narrowboats ply the canals; dray horses deliver good ale to the pubs; vintage tractors cough into life; stationary engines turn over tirelessly and the commercial vehicles we used to know take to the road again. This magazine covers these magnificent steam engines that once powered this nation. Whether you’re interested in the latest news, stories of steam engines saved from obscurity, upcoming events or detailed features on the history of these wonderful machines you’ll find it in Old Glory.
KINSALE BACK IN STEAM • One of the very last Fowler traction engines to be made by the Leeds company was 1936 Fowler A9 6hp compound No. 21698 ZB1135. The engine has just undergone a ten-year test and is back on the road after being off the scene for some time now. The engine has also been sold and went to its new owners, who come from near Ledbury in Herefordshire, in early November and will be out on the scene shortly.

FLYING THE FLAG AT BREDGAR • Narrow gauge steam is what the Bredgar & WormshIll Light Railway is all about. It’s been going for 50 years now, near Sittingbourne in Kent, but in addition, road steam has been very much part of it over those years. Here Old Glory road tests their resident 7hp traction engine, Garrett No. 33442, and meets the man who runs it these days, professional engineer Brian Hope.

EPIC SEASON FINALE • Some 71,520 enthusiasts attended the Classic Motor Show at the NEC Birmingham over 8-10 November (71,290 in 2023) with a world record number of clubs exhibited on 338 different club stands and 3,000 vehicles on display from buses, commercials, military, motor-cycles and of course cars of all ages. It was absolutely claustrophobic walking around in places on the Friday of the show, just like walking around the 1964 Motor Show which was the first one I ever attended, says the editor.
