Wake me up when September ends! • Each year, the autumn Railhead Treatment Trains attract much attention from enthusiasts as they carry out essential work in keeping the railhead safe for trains to operate. Network Rail operations director Chris Gee explains more about the operation of the York-based RHTT circuits, which are particularly popular with photographers, as they mainly employ Class 37s.

Island Line • Running for just over eight miles, South Western Railway’s Island Line from Ryde to Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a rather quirky and unique operation. Martyn Hilbert has been a regular visitor to the Island for a number of years and delves into the history of this fascinating route.
